Does your Jeep Wrangler rattle when turned off?
I have a 2002 TJ with a 5-speed manual transmission. Upon turnoff, it rattles briefly. At first, I thought it was just a noisy clutch. Then, I read it could be a transmission countershaft going bad. Any thoughts?
Thanks, asrobs. It's not pinging. It's definitely a loose rattle from the transmission area.
Thanks, guys! I found out the rattle DOES NOT occur when the clutch pedal is depressed when killing the engine.
Not hearing it, I'll have to make guesses. (don't look at the avatar and assume I don't know what I'm talking about)
The first things we always checked for when I owned a garage was to see what type of gas someone was using. More than half the time this 'run-on' was just cheap gasoline.
If the sound really does come from your transmission (I'm inclined to doubt, it would rattle at other times, most likely), it could be loose linkage. usually simple to fix.
I don't know where you're located, but when you go to any 'brand-name' repair shop, you will pay out the nose, even if it's just cheap gas. If there is a local car/racing club in your area, talk with them (if better gas doesn't work) Find those people for whom cars are a hobby to find the shortest and least expensive solution, without paying for anything you don't need.
